In the world of music, one of the most famous and probably the classiest instrument would be none other than the violin. Of course in order to be able to be a maestro with this type of musical instrument, the instrument has to be world class and made by a really good luthier or violin maker. One of the most famous luthiers in this field is none other than Scott Cao who hails from the land of China.
In the seventies, he was an apprentice luthier in China when the reign of Mao Ze Dong was happening. After the heat of the cultural revolution, he moved to America in order to further continue his career in violin maker. Later on, he moved back to China to practice independently and then went back to California.
It was during the cultural revolution of China wherein mister Scott Cao first got his taste of violin making. Before he even discovered what this art was, he was a farmer who made a living with getting crops and selling these crops. When a master violin maker came to the area, he took interest in mister Cao and offered him apprenticeship in making exquisite violins and other string instruments.
Eventually, he participated in this program and officially became the apprentice of the violin maker. While studying under his teacher, he also went to a school in Guangzhou known as the Guangzhou Institute of Professions wherein he increased his knowledge and honed his violin making skills. In 1977, he graduated from this place and became a luthier in China.
In the year 1985, China opened itself to other countries which gave mister Cao an opportunity to travel to America in order to start anew. In America, he studied under some of the most famous names when it comes to violin making. He studied under great names such as Hans Weisshaar, Louiz Bellini, and Roland Feller.
When he learned and perfected the trade, he decided to open up his store with a partner known as Hideo Kamimoto. His target were musicians who are not very rich as his instruments are of top notch quality but extremely affordable to anyone. From this little store, he decided to come up with his own brand name called Scott Cao Violins.
After a few years, he went back to the America and stationed one of his main shops there. He has received many awards from violin making contests in which he has entered. Also, there are many famous like who have used his violins such as Nigel Kennedy and Gidon Kremmer.
So as one can see, mister Scott Cao is a great example of making a very famous name out of himself by doing something that he really loves. He has even made very good copies of the famous Stradivari designs of violins. Because he has is so good at paying attention to details, he can make some of the best sounding instruments ever.
