Luxury Boutique Hotels In New Orleans, Louisiana

By Enid Hinton

The thing about a holiday stay in the Big Easy is that many of the city's suitable accommodations also double as a tourist experience. Spending the weekend or a week at boutique hotels in New Orleans is like a trip back in time. Guests will stay in Victorian homes oozing old-world charm and southern hospitality, and it feels like it's the 19th century all over again.

A small boutique hotel here is more like a B&B, perhaps located right in the middle of the French Quarter. It'll be a relatively calm and quiet street, albeit located just a stone's throw from the bright lights, galleries, coffee shops, jazz clubs and nightlife on Bourbon Street. A short walk will take you to Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral, the French Market, Superdome, Convention center and other tourist attractions nearby.

The warm welcome guests receive is the same as when one visits family or a close friend and feels at home. Expect to see a graceful mansion with a wooden sign outside, and vintage patio furnishings on the way into a grand hall with antique chandeliers. Stepping into this lobby is like taking a step back in time to a bygone era when sugar plantation owners used to live in these very homes.

The trip back in time continues into the guest rooms furnished with antiques, ornate mirrors and a large four-poster bed. The flickering lights and warm glow of a fireplace adds to the comfortable touch of being at home instead of in a hotel. It's all a very different experience from the usual cookie-cutter rooms in modern hotels.

It's also important to note that the dated vibe and period architecture do contain all the modern amenities that people expect. Every room is sure to have wired or wireless Internet, and most properties offer Wi-Fi in public areas too. Cable television and free local calls are also quite common.

Valet parking, turndowns and daily maid service, free coffee and tea in the lobby, a 24-hour concierge and front desk that fulfill every request made by a guest make a stay here a luxury experience. Families, couples and individuals don't have to worry about laundry, cooking meals, dirty dishes or any of the usual daily drudgeries of life. It's a holiday in every sense of the word.

All the personalized service and attention lavished by the staff, coupled with the in-room luxury and comfort, makes guests feel pampered. Let's also not forget mouth-watering Creole cuisine, gourmet foods and the fresh seafood that's always on the menu in New Orleans. Most people just don't feel like leaving once they stay for a couple of days and enjoy all this.

There are very few cities in the world that offer so much tourist fun, lodging and history all packed into the same place. From antique shopping to riverboat rides and evening entertainment and drinks in historic bars and clubs, this is a city where every place a tourist walks into has a century or two of living history and stories to tell. Finding the right boutique hotel in New Orleans will only make this experience all that much more memorable.
