Basics Regarding Any Waverly Mansion

By Patrick Perry

The term mansion is used to refer to a large dwelling house. The term has its origin in Old French, which derived it from the Latin language. In medieval times, the name was used to refer to a dwelling in which a priest lived and was capable of sustaining it by themselves. However, that has changed and modern mansions cannot be sustained by a single individual. Waverly mansion dwellings are some perfect example of modern mansions in existence.

In the Roman Empire, mansions were built with a lot of fortification around them. Fortification was necessary because of the instability in the living conditions and the culture at the time encouraged the practice. However, gradual changes in living conditions led to a reduction in fortification to promote comfort. This represented the first steps toward construction of modern mansions.

In ancient Europe, as politics and modern weaponry advanced, living in fortified castles started to fade away gradually. Mansions that emerged did not have any defenses. In fact, the old ones were demolished to give way for the construction of new, more modern styles. During the fifteenth century, the nobles could own more than one country house, which they visited throughout the year at different times. Visits were mostly made in pursuit of social and sporting circuit.

The nineteenth century came with a continuation in the construction of mansions by self-made men. The styles of this time were smaller and incorporated architecture from older Renaissance and Tudoresque styles. One perfect example of such mansions is the Breakers found in Rhode Island. Most medieval and historic mansions within the United States have been demolished to give way to better more modern structures.

For example, at some point, the Fifth Avenue in the New York City once was lined with mansions. The construction of these mansions was done by the finest architects of that time and they had European gothic styles. However, to pave way for suburban development, they have all been demolished. Although Americans have demolished their mansions, Rome, London, and Paris still have their mansions still in place today.

Mansions that exist in most places today are from the 20th and 21st century. They are designed with rooms for leisure activities. Conservatories, home theaters, and infinity pools are very common features. Smaller varieties have lower number of rooms for leisure while larger varieties have many rooms dedicated to leisure. There is a change in the level of significance attached to rooms as time goes by.

At the start of the twentieth century, all mansions had rooms for a private study or library. That has changed as mansions built in the 21st century typically feature a cinema or a home theater. Home automation is also becoming increasingly incorporated. Server rooms and bowling alleys are also becoming common features.

Different places maintain different qualifications for a residence to be termed a mansion. The floor area for houses to be called mansions in most cities is 6, 000 square foot. This name is reserved to consumption levels that are above the levels in the specific location. It is associated with housing patterns for individuals within the upper class of the social ladder.
