Strengthen Faith With Apologetics Articles

By Kathleen Martin

Apologetics is a term taken from a Greek word that means 'spoken defense'. Since the Christian life is based on 'things unseen', knowing more about the meaning of scripture boosts faith. Apologetics articles are written to confirm the validity of Jesus being the son of God and to undergird a believer's reliance on the Bible as a road map for living.

All believers should take advantage of the vast amount of teaching and answers that are available. Reading the well-organized thoughts of others will strengthen their faith and give them answers to questions about - or attacks on - their beliefs.

Believers often are asked by friends, family, and co-workers why they exhibit such joy and peace. They also are often attacked for their beliefs when they express them while talking about how to handle problems, about the best way to live, or why they vote the way they do. People with opposing world views or other forms of religion can be antagonistic toward Christians.

Christians should be able to express themselves clearly in face of opposition but are directed by scripture not to react angrily. They can 'make the argument' for their faith without acrimony, being 'gentle as doves' while not backing down from biblical truths. In order to defend the faith, believers must understand it. This is where a grounding in apologetics comes in handy.

It's fun to study written expositions of biblical truth. There is a wealth of information online. Of course, it all needs to be assessed against scripture, since anyone can post on the internet. Of course, this kind of study is not needed to defend your faith; you can rely on your own experiences with the Holy Spirit. Your life as a believer is your personal testimony and can be very compelling to those who hear it.

Reading or hearing this kind of defense of the faith will answer questions and raise points you may have never thought of. For instance, how did a humble man in a tiny, conquered nation change the world in three short years? Why do men and women devote themselves to a forbidden belief system and give up everything - their property, their social standing, and even their lives, for this faith? Was Jesus a good man or the son of God?

It helps most believers to have difficult passages of scripture explained. They also may not have gotten the full meaning from what they read. For instance, many believers pray that their offerings may be multiplied. However, connecting that desire to the parables of feeding the 5000 and the 4000 gives a whole new idea of God's power. It's wonderful when the ideas of others give new insight and understanding to Bible study.

An article that focuses on one major point is helpful, since this field of study is so wide. New ideas should be digested thoroughly before other new ones are added. Often someone with a particular problem or struggle will 'happen' upon a teaching that helps enormously. Writing such articles allows believers to share their insights and experiences as they relate to biblical truth.
