The Roles Of Unions Australia

By Estela Bolton

With the eminent growth of unions Australia government is at the fore front to encourage its citizens who are employed to join such organizations in order to better their lives as far as living and working conditions are concerned. Such associations are lobby groups for their plight and representations during meetings with various stakeholders in the employment sector. The government intervention is for them to join the groups and enjoy the benefits of being members.

It is for a beneficial clause being a member. A lot of things which the person could not have done as an individual will be voiced through such forums, and the assurance of being heard and acted upon are very high. This is because the unions have a leadership structure which represents the entire people under their leadership on different aspects.

The work of these groups is numerous. Championing for the rights and needs of employees is the main one. This is a function given to them by the Australian constitution once they are registered with the government. With this power, they lobby for better wages and salaries for their members, good work surroundings and provision of medical covers and housing for them and their families.

All these are carried out through negotiations with the management of industries and organizations where their people are employed. They seek audience and give them the proposals agreed upon which could work out for the best interest of both parties. In case this is declined, they have the power to call for work boycott nationwide until when redress for these workers are agreed upon and implemented.

Teaching these members on a variety of emerging things is another responsibility for them to bear. In this case, they offer training through tutorials and conventions. This is all about sensitizing the workers on current trends on investments, savings and technology. They equip them with knowledge relevant in avoiding over-dependence on a single income but, diversifying resources in order to obtain financial stability in the entire time frame. Knowledge of their rights is also passed to them.

Apart from the plight of workers, these associations can engage themselves in campaigns aimed at creating change especially when it comes to environmental aspects. In this perspective, different unions and their workers come together in carrying out activities that are meant to save the earth from pollution.

Offering of various services aimed at betterment of lives of these workers is a notable function undertaken by them. This involves giving them subsidized goods and services for purchase and also low interest rates with favorable terms for emergencies and other financial needs.

With unions Australia is becoming a better nation for employment. Workers are assured to have a better lives and favorable working conditions since they have a clear sensitization on their rights and bodies to stand up on behalf of them in case such are violated.
