Know Your Illinois Congress Candidate 2014

By Lila Bryant

Illinois is one of the states that will be going to the ballot this year. Everything is set at the moment; candidates have gone through the primary elections, and every citizen now knows his Illinois congress candidate 2014. The state primary elections were held on 18/ March/2014, and each party chose a representative for the forthcoming general elections.

The senatorial battle will be held on 4/11/ 2014. Former senator and Senate Majority Whip, Democrat Dick Durbin is expecting another period in office. He, however, must beat competition from Oberweis Jim, a Republican Party member. Both of them comfortably won the primaries, with Durbin winning unopposed.

In each of the eighteen districts, a representative was nominated to carry the flag for each of the parties. This article discusses individual contestants and the way they performed in the preliminary elections. It also attempts to analyze every individual candidate; their history, and possibility to win or lose.

The first congressional district will have a Democrat, Bobby Rush, running against Jimmie Lee Tillman II. At the same time, the second district shall witness a tough battle between Republican Eric Wallace and incumbent Robin Kelly. Two candidates; Marcus Lewis and Charles Rayburn were removed from the race.

The third district will field Sharon Brannigan who defeated Diane Harris, the then aspiring representative of the eleventh District of this state in 2012, and Daniel Lipinski in November during the general elections. Sharon got 62.6% of the total number of votes cast beating Harris by a margin of 24.8% of the total number of votes.

The forth one has Hector Concepcion and incumbent Luis Gutierrez as representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties respectively. The year 2012 saw Hector eliminated from the contest, but that has not weakened him. Gutierrez, on his part, has vowed to defend his position with the agility of a lion. He vanquished other democrats: Jorge Zavala and Alexandra Eidinburg during the preliminaries.

In district number five, Republicans are not represented. Mike Quigley will face Nancy Wade. In the sixth district, Republican incumbent Peter Roskam will meet Democrat Michael Mason in what might be a fierce battle. In congressional district number seven, Robert Bumpers, a Republican, will be up against Danny Davis, of the Democratic Party. Dan Roche withdrew from this race prior to the party primary.

In district eight, Kaifesh Lawrence is expected to face incumbent Democrat Tammy Duckworth. At the same time, Susanne Atanus, a Republican Party member, will contest against incumbent Schakowsky Janice in the ninth district. The tenth district is looking forward to a tough battle between Brad Schneider of the Democratic Party and Dold Robert. The name of Arlene Hickory was removed from the ballot.

The eleventh district will be hosting a tough fight between Bill Foster and Darlene Senger. The later beat three other competitors after the disqualification of one candidate. Foster was not opposed. The twelfth district will vote for one among three candidates going for that position; Republican Michael Bost, Enyart William and Paula Bradshaw. The thirteenth district will also witness three contestants: Rodney Davis, Josh Dill and Ann Callis go for that position.

Incumbent Dennis Anderson and Randy Hultgren are the main contenders for the post of congressional district number fourteen. In district fifteen, John Shimkus will be facing Eric Thorsland as Adam Kinzinger battles out with Randal Olsen for the sixteenth district. In the two last districts, both the Democratic Parties and the Republican Parties will field a candidate in each of them; Cheri Bustos and Bobby Schilling in the seventeenth, and Aaron Schlock and Darrel Miller in eighteenth.
