Advices On Church Capital Campaign

By Dominique Martin

Planning and developing for establishments would take a lot of preparation, whether it is for renovation or for construction. There are a lot of aspects you need to cover like finance, legalities, manpower, location planning, fundraising or marketing, endowments, maintenance, and also feasibility studies. There would be a lot to consider for this and whichever goal you might have whether it is for an organization, an agency, or a company.

Executing the whole process is a lot like art and science. Doing a Church Capital campaign would need a mix of these two and also with both traditional and modern methods. Most likely the foundation for this would include the New and Old Testament as examples to apply the truths from the scriptures. Basically, this is a campaign for building a church through raising funds.

There are differences between this and other campaigns like in schools, universities, hospitals, museums, etc. The process is different and is strongly revolved around the Christian Stewardship principle. It is built on its foundation which is a lifestyle that came from the responsibilities and priorities of their values from the word of God.

How long it takes to accomplish this would depend on how well the planning and execution phases are done. It also depends on the time the donors are able to support you. Some would be able to commit their support and pledge for donating funds or assistance, but some need time to pray, discuss with the committee, and consider, in order for them to make a decision.

There are a few mistakes that would be encountered during these phases. The committee needs to be equipped with a feasibility study or a congregational readiness survey in order to make a comprehensive plan in what essential elements that is needed. This is a project that is too important for anyone to apply blind faith on.

Another mistake would be prematurely doing publicity. It would be too impossible to finish the project with small donations or gifts and therefore initially having personal meetings with the members would be critical to the foundation. Major commitments done in a quiet phase would determine the success of everything. Never rush to make an announcement.

This campaign should be seen from start to finish. A lot of people would think that there is more importance with publicity, but the legs of the entire project are in the first and last phases. These two would determine the complete success of the campaign. There would be more security if the start is established well, and there would be loyalty from the members if it finished well.

Since there is no certainty with how people make decisions, then is not applicable to make assumptions from the givers. A few campaigns would have this kind of mistake as well. Since not everyone can give equal support and the value for the assistance that they will offer, then it should be carefully planned and make necessary implementations regarding this.

Hiring a consultant would be able to provide professional input and output. Since this is a more complex campaign compared to others, it needs closer attention and critical importance for everything to be put in place. There are a lot at stake for this, so churches need to decide on choosing to retain firm that would be able to assist them further.
