The Basics On Last Supper Painting

By Eric Jimenez

There are many different types of art, including religious art. People who believe in God and are of a Christian faith, might have a Last Supper painting. The Last Supper is the name for an event that is retold in the Gospel. As the story goes, Jesus was shared a final meal with his Apostles before he had been crucified.

Christians celebrate this story, particularly on Maundy Thursday. Also called The Lords Supper and Holy Communion, there have been artists depicting this scene for thousands of years. The best-known example of this iconic image is that which was painted by Leonardo da Vinci circa 1490.

People can get copies of famous paintings of this feast. It can be difficult to get original versions of popular depictions because most of these are preserved in museums. Amateur painters may have original versions available to those interested. These paintings can be found online and in-store at a variety of places around the world. Costs will vary based on a number of factors, including the artist and condition of the piece.

Most popular paintings are based on the interpretation of Da Vinci. In his work, Jesus is sitting in the center of a long table. On each side of him there are six people, all of which are men, except for one woman. Still, there are variations among these paintings and people are encouraged to find a piece of art that best matches their perception of the historical event.

This is a significant story from the Bible. Not only was it a Passover meal, but also the time when Jesus was said to have commanded people to remember what he was going to do for mankind: shed blood on the cross to pay the debt of sins. This feast is also significant to Jewish people who remember it as the time when got spared them of plague of physical death in Egypt.

There are many important lessons that Christians take from the story of the Last Supper. This is one, of numerous, reasons why people might choose to make or purchase artwork that depicts the feast. People of Christian faith have this and other major Biblical events as artwork that they place around their home. It may serve as a reminder of their faith.

Many people like to collect art for different reasons. Christian art is in high demand among religious people and is available through many sources. Often times these pieces of artwork depict important stories from the Bible that relate to the faith and belief system of Christians.
