By Iva Cannon

It is good to have family members look for better opportunities away from home. These opportunities may be employment opportunities, business prospects on pursuing further studies. Others may be looking for opportunities to have some fun. Death may claim any of them before they are back home. This would mean that you as a family would take responsibility to bring their remains home for burial. This process takes a few days with right documents and licenses. For dignified transport, shipping human remains are transported in special means.

Several shipping firms do transport human remains to different parts of the world. You can check if there is a local firm that does international mortuary transfers or you need to contact an international office. A local firm is better placed since it understands local rules and regulations and how to work within the guidelines.

The home embassy has to go through all requests to transport the remains back home. You mat first apply for a death certificate and file it at the embassy together with permits and passports. If any inquiry to the death is pending, you may be required to wait for conclusion of such investigations. The consulate at the embassy checks on the documents and allows you to transport the body if they are correct.

Rather than transporting the remains as they are, you may consider having the body cremated in a country where your loved one died in and only have cremated remains back home. This makes transportation easier and cheaper. It is also a way around stiff human remains transport rules that may be in place at your home country.

If your culture allows for sharing out of cremated remains to close members, . You will have to plan for transport of the remains to family members that are far from home. You may also decide to have the remains preserved in a closed vase or made to jewelry. This would mean transporting the remains to a designer for such.

Companies that transport the cremated remains do so within the framework of the set law. Cargo of this nature is not transported like other cargo but given a priority and special packaging. It is a show of respect to send the dead in a dignified manner. This makes the service a little more expensive.

You have a choice of transporting the package in any type of package. Funeral urns, wooden boxes, and glass are the most used packages. For packages going for long distances, there is need for padding to avoid damage by mishandling. In addition, have an inner and outer box for added safety and better handling. Ensure that the inner container can take a substantial amount of pressure before damage.

You can only bring the remains home if it is not illegal to do so in your country. The package is sent as priority package to the recipient. Packaging of the remains should be done as specified by law. The post may send remains in a funeral urn.
