I've found, time and time again, the measure of a great woman or man is not in what they get, how much wealth is under their belt, the hoards of friends they have or the material goods they possess...but it's in their true ability to uplift others in the worst of times. That matters...it really matters.
Our society has us deeply concentrated on acquiring versus giving.
We reside in a world that is concentrated on results and grasping at whatever we possibly can. This lifestyle has ground many into the ground as we are constantly having a look at the things we need vs. being deeply grateful for the things we have. We want what we need and we want it now! But if you really take a while to slow everything down and see what is happening around each of us, it's pretty amazing. There are many dazzling things taking place each day. But since we are living in the future so regularly we refuse to see the beauty of the present.
When you can step out of this story - the one of progress, progress, progress - and begin looking at what others in this world need, you give yourself and others a gift. What is that gift? It is the gift of true selflessness. It is the gift of giving. You truly begin to see that many people in this world are in dire need of support, encouragement, and help on an elemental level and that you really have every ability to fill these needs in some way or other.
So give. Give everything you have. What's interesting about life is when you start giving, it eventually gives back to you in the form of exactly what you need. Give up the story of living constantly in the land of progress for one that centers around helping out other humans in need.
Time to take a stand for others.
