The Whole 9 Yards

By Evan Sanders

Do you know where the old saying, "The whole 9 yards" came from?

In WWII, fighter pilots would have a machine gunner with a .50 caliber that had yards worth of ready ammunition. In times of stress, the pilot would tell the gunner how many yards to give. However, when things really hit the fan, he would belt out "Give them the whole damn nine yards!?" These men were in survival mode and had to do everything they possibly could to survive. They were forced to give it everything they had in order to actually stay alive.

How do we do this in life?

You have to give each day everything you've got. Leave no avenue unexplored and leave nothing in the tank. Give yourself the best chance at life and achieving your ambitions. Give it the whole damn 9 yards.

Everybody is a consequence of our repeated actions all though time. We are the total of our calls, habits, and choices of the journeys we decide to walk. Therefore, if we are truly going to make an enormous change in life, we have got to change the things that really lead us to arrive at this place.

You never know the limits of your possibilities until you travel into uncharted waters. At one time or another, you have to leave the safeness of the harbour and take a grand journey. Frightening? Yes. Mandatory? Hell yes.

It is so simple to be a viewer in your own life. We call this being up in the stands. Nevertheless to live a life you love you have got to get on the field and play in the game. For most that means taking the hits and enjoying the daily circumstances and challenges that come together with it. The decision to get on the field of life can be stupendously frightful to many who are scared about going after what they truly love. But ultimately, wih enough support and pressure from inside, those frightened and scared souls will take the leap of faith and start their own journey in due time.

Give this life all that you've got. You only have one to live and you really don't know exactly what you are able to do. So chase perfection knowing you will never achieve it. In the final analysis, you may understand that you achieved excellence instead.
