What Defines A Christian Social Justice Blog

By Marci Nielsen

The message of Christ as captured in the gospel emphasizes a great deal on social justice. This means that a Christian social justice blog must remain faithful to the message of Christ despite addressing contemporary issues. The perspective adopted by such blogs should resonate with what Christ would advocate for were he to be living in the present day. This fidelity to Christianity must be maintained throughout.

A blogger who wishes to be regarded in light of Christ must be faithful to the ideals of Christianity in his interpretation. The message should not be twisted to achieve a particular end. This allows Christians visiting the site to understand the world around them the way Christ would have desired. This gives relevance to the gospel today despite a changing society.

The issues handled on a blog are also used to accord identity to the platform. Societal justice issues that capture the attention of bloggers include environmental degradation and conservation, health, education and war. Christians are involved in advocacy to ensure that all humanity achieves equality in resource allocation and distribution.

Advances in societies have led to inventions and technology that can be useful or misused. Experts in technology highlight beneficial inventions and their application in changing the lives of populations. Blogs focus on innovations and technology that can transform the lives of individuals as well as be misused to their disadvantage.

The individual or organization running a blog can give an indication of the credibility of a blogging platform. Religious leaders have taken on blogging to reach to a growing internet savvy population. The contributors are experts in particular fields who adopt a Christ informed perspective. This enables the readers to understand issues as Jesus would have handled them were he alive.

It is impossible to mention social justice without focusing on politics. Leaders have a significant influence on policies that affect the daily lives of millions of citizens. As such, religious leaders and organizations endeavor to ensure that these leaders make responsible decisions. They use the forums to scrutinize policies to ascertain that they do not benefit a few at the expense of the majority.

Christianity is facing increased pressure from social changes. The traditional definition of marriage is under attack from single parenthood, gays and homosexuals, among other definitions. Bloggers are using their platforms to advocate for the Christianity understanding of father, mother and children. However, as churches divide and hold alternative views, the blogs get divided as well. Some push for the traditional definition while others advocate for a pragmatic approach.

Blogs have been used to highlight the work being carried out by individuals, leaders and groups in churches. This includes missions to different parts of the world, especially in areas that have been affected by disasters. The blogs showcase the work and attempts by Christians around the world to push for justice for the down trodden. The person or institution managing the blog will lend credibility to it.
