Characteristics And Functions Of Baptist Church Youth Ministry In Oklahoma

By Patricia Turner

The Youth Ministry in Baptist Church Oklahoma has been described by many of its members and observers as a place where the Spirit of God dwells. They are known to be prayerful, loving and they constantly attracting people to their fellowship by the way they act. The ministry is a wing in the church where young men and women feel at home and commit themselves to the work of God.

One of the fellowship activities is Bible study. Baptist Church youth ministry in Oklahoma supports Bible study to a great extent. The youths come with their study manuals to discuss the word of God and try to apply them in their daily lives. Topics such as obedience, prayer, rapture, forgiveness of sins, sanctification, salvation, offerings, love, the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how to handle temptations are some of the discussions they have regularly.

The people are also good in visitation. In fact, it is through this act of fellowship that non members of the church realize their uniqueness. Members visit themselves when they are unable to come to for a meeting just to know what happened. In times of sickness, they are always there to pray and assist themselves to get well.

One of the ways through which the ministry serves the congregation is by keeping the environment clean. The people come out on weekends to do the decorations and prepare for service. Many of them are faithful in this because of the miracles they experience immediately after sacrificing their time and strength for the clean-up.

In addition, the youth fill up some units in the church including the choral unit, drama and equipment maintenance. The youth drama team is able to organize a play that can last several hours without boring the congregation. They are usually engaged during crusades and evangelism when there is an emphasis to create awareness for the existence and location of the ministry.

Ushering is another part that is controlled by the youths and the reason for this cannot be far-fetched. They have the strength to stand for long hours, walk around the church and carry out assignments as requested by the pastors and members. They have the strength to carry items from one place to the other so they are good organizers.

The group strives to maintain purity as the young men treat the ladies as sisters and the young ladies treat the men as brothers. This creates an atmosphere for both sexes to understand each other better and prepare themselves for a relationship when it is time. Immorality is highly prohibited but members are encouraged to partake in holy relationships.

The lives of the youths in the congregation at Oklahoma speak louder than any organized crusade in the area. This is why parents ask their children to join the fellowship and also partake in the ministry. Youths who have been there for quite some time assume leadership roles without difficulty and are able to preach God's word to a large group for the purpose of bringing souls into the Kingdom.
