Factors To Consider For Pool Installation

By Lisa Kennedy

Over the years, above ground tarn construction has been undergoing developmental phases so as to ensure construction of quality tarns. A tarn installed above the ground used to be a sorry alternative to the real deal. These days, if a deck surrounds the above ground pool, it is easy to mistake it for an in-ground model. This forms part of the considerations in pool installation.

Above ground, tarns can come in different shapes, but the most common shapes are round or oval. You can measure the size of the above ground tarn that you would like by taking a garden hose and lay it out in the diameter of the tarn you would like on the ground in your backyard.

Above ground, tarns feature a frame and supports. When these are made from steel, they work just like Superman, keeping the tarn sturdy regardless of the conditions. Also, these resist corrosion, so they will look great and last longer. A pump is needed to circulate the water and to be most effective; it should be at least one horsepower for an 18-foot pool. Sand filters are more effective at cleaning water, so select one of these.

Once you figure out an idea of the shape and size of your tarn, call your local government office to find out about getting a permit. Every area or township has different rules and regulations. Having a permit will protect you if anything happens during tarn construction.

A pre-inspection and a layout of both the tarn and its accessories are sometimes provided with installations. The installers advise to what depth they will excavate the area, which is usually about six feet. Verify that all the plumbing is running from it to the filter, as well as the return lines, is included in the installation cost. Paying the extra money to get a tarn to run does not make sound financial sense.

Among the different types of swimming tarn installation, homeowners should know that in-ground installations are the most durable. There are several options if you wish to go this route. Fiberglass types are molded offsite to the desired shape, and lowered into an onsite excavation having laid plumbing. Vinyl-lined in-ground tarns are similar in structure with above-ground tarns, but a vinyl lining attached to a plastic, wood or metal perimeter wall.

Once the tarn is filled, the installer should take the water to its store for testing. If there are any concerns, the pool owner must learn how to address them with chemicals or using other methods. Many water issues are only temporary, but if they are not resolved, its accessories may not operate properly.

The tarn company you choose can help take you through the rest of the process. It is important to leave the bigger decisions to the professionals, but equally important for you to stay involved in the tarn construction process. Once the tarn installation is complete, you can swim anytime you want.
