By Margaret Morris

Some people think that volunteering is more about a responsibility. They feel that they owe this to the community. However, they are surprised to find how much they get in return. People may make excuses, thinking that they have don't have time, or that volunteering isn't for them. However, people who have been forced into one of these projects often change their mind and their way of thinking. When you do have a stressful job, for example, you may not think of volunteering. However, this will take some of the stress and anxiety away.

You will meet up with a team of other volunteers who you will build relationships with. This may be a time where you will learn to become a lot more confident. Parents also find that it is more important for their kids to join up with a volunteering project. This is especially important for a child who seems a little anxious or introverted. Many people are able to see and hear once they have been treated like this.

So often, life can be uneventful. You will wake up every day, go to work, get back and the same cycle will repeat itself the following day. You may feel stuck or you may feel that there is no meaning. When you are volunteering somewhere, you may find that you are doing something meaningful and worthwhile in your life. Helping others can give you a real purpose.

You may find that simply cleaning up a beach can be helpful. This will help because obviously appreciate a community that is well looked after. However, you can also teach a young child to read or to speak English. This can be hugely rewarding. Simply knowing that he or she is going somewhere and will hopefully persevere can give you some hope, knowing that you have sowed the seed.

A lot of people just want hope. They don't want money. They have been through a lot in their lives. They may have lost their home or their family. They may just need to talk to someone. You may just need to sit with them or to hold their hand. Money is not always the answer. These are the times that you will remember.
