When Failure To Launch Anxiety Victim Refuses To Get Help

By Martha Patterson

Being an adult is more than hitting a certain age or attaining a body size. Failure to launch anxiety is a complex headache for parents as adult children fail to take responsibility and remain holed at home with their parents. Experts have suggested numerous solutions to recover these children. Here are some of the solutions suggested.

Put your house in order before turning to your son. The golden rescue rule in case of an emergency is to watch over yourself first before thinking of other people. Work on your mental health to ensure that there is only one case requiring help. Children emulate their parents to a great extent regardless of their age.

Appreciate that these are young adults and not yet full adults. Most parents deal with such issues in their 40s and 50s. Unconsciously, you could be expecting your son to act your age. Allow him to be a child but monitor his progress or growth. This is a transition phase where you should be more interested in progress than accomplished behaviors.

Talk to the child about your concerns. This is an opportunity to make him aware of his delayed milestones. Experts confirm that most of these adults are not aware of their unfortunate situations. Use the session to talk about your expectations and suggest solutions. You will also understand the challenges that your son is facing. You can draw boundaries and a road map that will lead to quick recovery.

Quit accommodating your son too much. Parents are always protective of their children. They will stand by them in all situations. Be gradual in urging your son to take a more independent road. Allow him to track his hospital appointment, supervise him to clean his room every day, and such motivation to independence. This slowly sends him away from your nest.

Be gradual in your approach. There are many issues that FTL persons have. They lack motivation, are less tolerant to distress, expect too much from people but do not reciprocate and will not make the bed, among others. It is easier to deal with one at a time than attempt to force all of them. You can monitor progress by handling one at a time and end up with an adult over time. Taking too much at a go is stressing and disappointing.

Protect your son from sliding into destructive life. This means a life of drug abuse and pleasure seeking. Such a life is laden with damaging mines that will complicate the recovery process. You must be aware of the fact that you son might not be aware of his unfortunate situation. Allowing him to slide into destruction will make it impossible to recover him. While directing him into the right path, do not be forceful as to lead him down a path that he does not like. The results are usually disastrous.

Seek professional assistance. This should be as early and quick as possible to improve the chances of positive results. Choose a localized program that is more convenient to complete. The program should also be customized to address your unique needs beyond delivering value for money.
