Tips On How To Overcome Frustration

By Sharlene Fleming

It is not always that our desires and goals get fulfilled. Whenever one encounters one is faced with opposition that is getting in the way of their success, it is very likely that one will get frustrated. This is more likely if the opposition is persistent in spite of continued efforts to succeed. If not checked, frustration may lead to destructive negative energy. One needs to be in control of this emotion so that it does not get out of hand.

Accepting the reality is the first step towards taming the feeling of frustration. Often, many people will start to look back and imagine what life would have been if one thing or the other had not happened. This only makes them more frustrated. It is important that one recognises that there is a reality to be dealt with. The earlier this is done, the earlier it is that they will start feeling better about themselves again.

Shift of focus to other things will help one to readjust back to their real self. This can be achieved by engaging in a number of several mentally demanding activities. One should not, however, entirely ignore everything that is going on around them. Rather, it should be a way to buy time and let the destructive energies subside. After regaining their usual composure, one can then find a long term solution.

It is natural for one to try and find someone or something to carry the blame. Many people take the blame themselves. What this does is to make them sink even deeper. Others choose to blame other people. This may give them relief for the time being but after a while the bad feeling returns. Learning not to blame anyone is a strength that one needs to learn.

Whatever the situation, one should remain positive. They should be confident that their current difficulty is just but a passing cloud. This can only be achieved if one stays around people that are enthusiastic. Another idea along the same line of thought is to participate in competitive events which enhance a competitive and fighting spirit. Parties with lots of happy people may also be considered.

It is important to focus on what one intends to happen in the end and not the present circumstances. This represents the big picture. Instead of worrying about the things not working presently, one should concentrate on the many others heading in the right direction even though this may be happening at a slow pace. In other words, the big picture is still intact and the desired outcome will be achieved in the long term.

Talking about a problem to someone is a way of solving it. It helps one get rid of the burden they have been carrying and they feel relieved. It is at this point that they will even get ideas of how to deal with it. In some cases, friends may share similar experiences. This is encouraging as one learns that they are not the only ones with this problem. Letting this emotion build up will lead to bigger problem in future.

Some people find out that they can express themselves better through writing. This, like speaking, is a way of pouring out the negative energy. Whether it is recording in a journal or expressing frustration on social media pages, the effect is the same. Some people even go ahead to tear up what they have written down as an expression. This too, may help.
