Advantages Of Hotel Room Blocks

By Stephen Allen

There are lots of benefits to booking a number of rooms in advance. By opting for hotel room blocks, you can save yourself money and hassle as well as time. It's a good option to take into consideration if you have an important event approaching that needs planning in advance.

Blocking off rooms for a wedding is a great idea, especially in instances where a lot of family might be coming in from out of town or even abroad and are unfamiliar with the area. It allows the family members to have a safe and comfortable place to stay, whilst remaining in proximity of the festivities. Furthermore, it makes organizing transportation for groups to and from the hotel easier as well.

Having family staying in one place can be so beneficial in the long run. Aside from whatever event they may be in town for, family members staying at the same accommodation will get to spend more time catching up with one another. If they are in town for a wedding, then it's a great way to have a family reunion at the same time!

There are huge discounts one can get when blocking off many rooms at once. Just like airlines, hotels have group rates and packages that make it more affordable for everyone instead of individually trying to find somewhere to stay. Packages could include meals or amenities on site, in addition to reduced rates for larger groups.

Having a room block is also good for conferences that are out of town, particularly when the company is sending its employees. You can also use room blocks for school trips or trips organized by a club. Many people use this method when traveling to festivals like Carnival in places like Trinidad in the Caribbean every year. You can book well in advance for some of these!

A room block is typically nine hotel rooms or more. There are different types of room block available dependent on the needs of the guests. Websites such as Skipper are really good at determining what type of reservation is best for a bride and groom's wedding guests, taking a lot of legwork out of this part of wedding planning.

For weddings, a courtesy room block is your best bet. You won't have to pay any additional fees in the event that some of the rooms you reserved don't get filled in time. On the other hand, you'd probably have to make some type of major deposit for a guaranteed block, which secures all the rooms you need.

It is important to read or negotiate the booking agreement as thoroughly as possible before committing. Some hotels will release any unfilled rooms a certain period before the event, such as 30 days. Some will charge a penalty for unused rooms, while others can be very flexible in what they offer in terms of upfront payment or bookings by a certain time. If all rooms are booked by any given date, some hotels will allow more rooms to be added for further guests if necessary.
