Convenient Way To Search For Florida Divorce Records

By Claire Dowell

FL Divorce Records can be found at the Vital Statistics office of the state's Department of Health. Since June 6, 1927, documents of divorce cases in Florida were kept at the office. Those that occurred prior to the said date remained in the hands of the Clerk of Superior Court of the county where the divorce was made legal.

Members of the general public are given the right to access the records because they are deemed as part of the public domain. You can request your own records and that of other people too. However, it is a bit difficult to get the latter. You have to have a very good reason for getting the records or else, the office of Vital Statistics can reject your request.

Before you can carry out a search, you must secure the correct request form at the Office of Vital Statistics or download it from their official website. Complete the form with necessary details such as the name of the couple, date of divorce, and where the divorce was made official. Do not forget to include your contact details like your name, home address and phone number. Mail your request to the office along with a valid ID and appropriate fee. If you are unaware where to mail your request, ask the help of the state office and they will forward your request to the correct county on your behalf. There is a fee of $5 for every copy of a divorce file and $4 for additional copies. Fees are not subject to a refund no matter what the outcome of the search process is.
