If you want to get your hands on Massachusetts Criminal Records, you can head to the state's Department of Public Safety and place a request there. The department maintains a system called the Criminal Offender Record Information where pieces of information on crimes are kept. The state and the department allow citizens to access the records to protect them from criminals.

Criminal records are widely requested by people who perform background checks on other people because of the valuable pieces of information it contains such as the name of a criminal, nature of the crime, and date and place where it was committed, amongst others.

In the state of Massachusetts, citizens are allowed to acquire their own criminal documents. For documents that have errors, owners can appeal to the Department of Public Safety to have them assessed and updated accordingly. If you intend to acquire the documents of other people, you can also do so but the amount of information that will be revealed to you will be controlled depending on your identity and your motive for requesting them. Law enforcers and lawyers are permitted to access other people's documents, especially if they need it for an investigation. Employers and landlords are given access to enable them to better select who they hire as employees and who they accept as tenants, respectively.

To initiate search, obtain the proper request form from the Department of Public Safety. The form can also be downloaded from the department's official website. Complete the form with all the required details such as the name of the person whose files you want to get, their address, how old they are, your contact details, and many more. Make sure the information you are writing down are accurate because it is important for the success or failure of your search. There are certain fees for obtaining the files at the department. You can pay them either by money order or through a certified check. Once fees are paid, no refund will be given regardless if the search is successful or not.

Criminal files can also be obtained from online search tools. You can find a lot of them on the Internet and you will also find that they all refer to themselves as legit providers of criminal files. Be careful not to jump right away on their claim to be legit providers. Perform a history check on them prior to availing their services.

Online search tools are either fee-based or for free. The former are capable of putting together an extensive version of a criminal file for a certain fee. If you intend to conduct just a one-time search, paying for every request you make is ideal. But if you are going to conduct many searches, like in the case of employers, it is best that you avail a monthly or yearly subscription from the search tool you chose to use so you can avoid spending a lot. Alternatively, the latter can get you Free Public Criminal Records. You will not be given an extensive version of the files as what fee-based search tools can get you, but you will get your hands on the basic details.
