Biblical Principles For Teaching In Christian And Sunday Schools

By Jose Price

In most Sunday school classes teachers often teach based on stories such as Jonah and the Whale and other folks tales. While these stories can be interesting for children, there are important Biblical Principles for Teaching. For, while hearing stories can be interesting, learning how to become a better human being can often be life saving.

Whether ministering to students or a congregation, leaders have to make important decisions about how to teach various lessons. In addition, consideration should be given as to whether the class is open to people from all walks of life, or a more conservative congregation. While, in most all cases, it is important that with regards to the theme included in study, the lesson create a strong connection between the lessons taught and the church as a whole.

The five principles which are taught in most Christian schools include spiritual transformation, family responsibility, discipleship and evangelism. It should be noted that while evangelism is taught in most Christian schools, it is not necessarily an activity promoted by a number of churches. Whereas, there are others whom have groups and missionaries which work to minister the concepts of salvation to people on a regular basis.

Through the teaching of these principles, students can often learn a great deal about the school, church and God along with other subjects. In most cases, individuals attending this type of school will be taught to minister to others about Jesus and salvation as well as the Holy Trinity, all of which are beliefs associated with most Christian based churches.

Whereas, discipleship refers to the connection and relationship one has with God. In most cases, those understanding the Holy Trinity which is God The Father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Ghost are often considered a disciple. As such, Sunday school is a strategy which impacts people throughout life. As such, it should be a positive rather than negative experience otherwise an individual might later reject the teachings and turn away from God.

Most families which believe in Christ often have a strong sense of community and family at home as well as at church and school. In doing so, home life is often built on dignity, respect and understanding. Whereas, it is important that the leaders of the family follow the biblical doctrines in a way that is loving and non-abusiveness if and when discipline or other actions are necessary.

In most cases, Sunday school students not only learn about salvation but also go through a spiritual transformation. For, classes often teach in ways that lead one to consider life and all it has to offer. After which, when one decides to build a personal relationship with the Supreme Being, many begin living a more spiritually focused life.

Other principles and philosophies include Biblical leadership and the importance of giving and sharing with others. While the Bible is used in most Sunday school classes, there are also additional materials available in most churches. It should be noted that while some of these additional materials teach from a conservative point of view, others are more liberal. As such, the church is often responsible for deciding whether not a leader can teach based on these lessons.
