Guided Christian Meditation To Help You Draw Closer To God

By Pamela Harris

Clearing the mind is not easy when the surrounding world is constantly intruding. Many Christians struggle when it comes to just being still, forgetting all else and being in the presence of God. They find it hard to leave behind the stresses of the day and the thoughts about what to cook and how much washing needs to be done. One of the simplest ways to clear the mind is to use Guided Christian meditation. This enables believers to bring themselves back to the present moment and focus on God.

These meditations are different from other types in that they are specifically created for believers and they focus on drawing closer to God. They are based on the Bible and help believers to focus on the Word of God. Christians may see meditating as new age, pagan, secular or anti-Christian but this not true. Meditating is a tool and as such it can be used by Christians to strengthen and clarify their relationship with God.

Spending time in the presence of God is essential for Christians. In the Bible, when Mary sits at the feet of Jesus while Martha is very busy working in the house, Jesus says that Mary has chosen the better way. Christians are often so busy that they do not find time for what is most important in their lives.

Meditations cover so many areas. Some are created specifically to address problems such as anxiety and stress. Others address the issue of healing and help people to achieve the state of mind where they are best able to respond to the healing power of God. Others are focused on helping people to reverse negative thoughts and think more like Christ.

More and more believers are becoming interested in learning to meditate. There are a variety of techniques and deciding on the most suitable can sometimes be a challenge. The best way for believers to make a choice is decide what they would like to accomplish. Do they want to learn to let go of mistakes, guilt, and negative thinking patterns that weigh them down? Do they have an illness and need healing? Are they suffering from anxiety and panic attacks?

Meditating creates the opportunity for learning to truly listen to God. It creates an intimate connection between the believer and God where they can really hear what He is saying. The more believers listen, the more sensitive they become to the Holy Spirit.

The stress of our fast-paced lifestyles can dramatically affect our health, causing blood sugar problems, increasing blood pressure, inhibiting immunity and hampering the ability to heal. This is why so many physicians are recommending the practice of meditating to people today. Meditating causes blood pressure to drop, the heart rate to decrease, muscles to relax and the immune system to be strengthened.

Biblical meditations enable believers to enjoy the physical benefits but far more too. When it is used as a tool and coupled with faith, it can transform the lives of believers. As they learn to abide in the presence of God, they experience more clarity and more peace of mind. They develop more understanding for themselves and for others.
