How Finding Purpose Can Help Growing In Faith

By Catherine Wagner

At some point in life, everyone has encountered feelings of anguish and misery for the situation they may be in. It is not rare to encounter these emotions, but it is more challenging to escape these feelings. Many people suggest growing in faith as the best technique to clear out these unpleasant feelings.

Naturally, nurturing faith is an advice easier said than put into practice. Others may find it easier and others may find it harder. Faith need not be the belief in a religious being. Even those who do not worship God can lose faith. In these circumstances, faith can simply mean optimism or hopefulness in life.

Living a life without hope is like losing your purpose. Without a sense of purpose, it can be tough to justify going on. A sense of purpose is important because it keeps us going in spite of trials and tribulations. Your inspiration can be a family member, a friend, a partner, or even a personal goal. Essentially, the best way to regain faith is by finding meaning.

It can be intimidating when some people seem like they have already got their whole lives figured out. Others even find their purpose as a child in the shape of a dream. Usually, this ambition takes a different shape as the person matures. Someone who originally wanted to become a dancer might eventually change his mind and conclude that he would rather be a lawyer. Lucky ones get to stick to one single dream for their entire lives, but how about others who have not had the chance to set their ambitions straight?

People in the prime of young adulthood may seem like they already have their entire lives figured out and this can be intimidating for others of the same age who have yet to decide what they want to become. The truth is, we go through life at different paces. Some social constructs dictate that at a certain point, you must already have finished an education, chosen a career, married a partner, bought a house, or have had a family.

These questions can only trouble an already lost and confused soul. To get to the bottom of things, first set aside all expectations of you. Then you ask the important questions. Reflect and ask yourself what your goal would rather be if only you were not impeded by financial constraints, families, partners, or anything at all. Ask yourself what you should be pursuing if it was all up to you.

Move out your comfort zone. Try new things, taste new food, and meet more people. This way, you will find things about yourself you had not uncovered before. Maybe you were excellent at archery, painting, or photography and you were only unaware because you have not taken the time to try them out. You could even try out a new sport.

Meet experts in their jobs and get some insight on how they perceive the turns their life has taken. Ask them if there are some things they would have done differently. These things can prove to be good advice for the future you. Get rid of societal pressure to see a clearer picture of your goals. Keep in mind that the journey is different for everyone. By learning from others, you can regain your enthusiasm for life.

Most importantly, be kind to people. You may not be able to make a difference in your own life, but you can make a difference for other people. That alone should be enough to fill you with a sense of purpose and appreciation for the things you have and the life you get to live.
