How To Make Christian Banners And Flags

By Maryellen Lamb

When it comes to the process of making of worship banners, it really is a simple project of craft. In fact, the only part you would say is hard is the choice of a design which is meaningful enough to pass across a message in a clear manner. There can be many inspirations for the design of banners and these may include things such as meaningful dreams, spiritual characters and even scripture verses. The process of making Christian banners and flags will be easy once the vision for your design has been chosen. The following are instructions on how a Christian banner or flag can be made.

Firstly, the length of the design that needs to be made need to be measured. The measurements of an ordinary medium-sized banner or flag would be 36 by 47 inches. After measuring, the base fabric is cut out. Felt is the preferable option though other fabrics like taffeta or lame can b provide a more dramatic effect.

The difficult task of choosing the design for the banners is the next task. There are myriads of designs on the internet so do remember to check out. Ensure that whatever you come up with as your design is something that has some meaning to the church and worship. If the goal is to appear more formal, the design ought to cut out of felt.

Then, the dowel rod is cut into two. When this is done, you end up with 2 poles which measure four feet. The dowel edges should be sanded to prevent it from snagging on a fabric.

The two edges of the flag are then folded into two and then pinned into place. These provide pockets in which the flag or the banner will hang. For a banner, the pockets should be made on either side. For a flag, the pocket is made on one side only. Using a sewing machine, the seam is then sewed.

Next, you have to decide whether the design you have come up with is glued or sewn to the fabric. Generally, a design made of felt is better glued. However, that which has been made from other materials other than felt should be sewed. This is because these fabrics are not as thick as felt, and can allow glue to seep through them. This will only ruin the look and therefore the not look good.

If it was glued, it needs to be allowed to dry. Then, the dowel rods are slipped into the pockets. It may be necessary to add some stitches by hand to make your banner or flag to snugly fit on the dowel rod. To ensure that the flag is firmly secured, it should be stitched to the top parts and bottom part of the banner.

Christian banners and flags are normally created as decoration for churches. Also, they can be used as tools in church service especially as props for performances of worship dance. When designing a banner or a flag, ensure it illustrates a mission theme or a bible verse. Mostly, these banners are used for multiple purposes. They can be used as seasonal decor and also used the whole year for the beautification of a sanctuary.
