Medieval Wedding Gowns Make For Very Special Experiences

By Kendra Ware

In by gone years weddings were habitually pre arranged and a simple subject of principle instead of being in love. The dresses were designed to symbolize the families' affluence and social standing; brides never wore white. In fact medieval wedding gowns were generally blue to show purity, sometimes deep reds and greens would also be worn, as dyes in these primary colors were expensive and alluded to wealth.

In 1840, Queen Victoria wore the first white wedding gown, starting the trends of today with traditional creams, ivory or whites. White was actually used to symbolize excessive wealth during this period. Ladies on occasion also incorporated flamboyantly colored trimmings made from silks, furs, or velvet fabrics; expensive gems also finished off these masterpieces.

Today many brides seem to be bored with the normal everyday choice of bland colored dresses; whereas most Celtic brides still tend to wear traditionally brightly colored dresses, except green which is considered to be unlucky. A medieval themed wedding is a growing trend today and as a result brides are searching for dressmakers that can reproduce these older styled dresses. Luckily these designers are not hard to find.

For any person that decides on having an older styled gown there are some features that have to be present, in order to hit all the notes you may wish to be striking. Elements that might need to be considered are a lace bodice, decorative ribbons or trimming on the sleeves, neckline and waist. A tight fitted corset bodice with a full skirt, or even a long cape worn over the top of the dress.

By adding any of these elements into a design a person will be able to add subtle touches that hint towards a by gone era. Additionally those that are not brave enough to have a completely non white dress can use color accents by way of colored waistbands or edging on the hem or sleeves. This is a perfect joining of both modern and medieval styles, with only a little compromise.

Finances unfortunately dictate what can ultimately be purchased but for that bride wanting a little something unique but without the hefty price tag or most dresses this era has a "peasant" styled garment. These simpler styled robes are stocked and start at $89 dollars up to $199 per dress. The bonus here is by adding an edging here and there and even some jewels it could look like a custom made piece without paying a ridiculous amount.

However if more complicated gowns are required then it requires that silks and velvets in deep rich colors of blue, burgundy and purple be used. Paired with a full length sleeve, corset bodice all finished off with gemstones, lace and elaborate edgings. Of course the detailed design will dictate a lavish cost as well, possibly setting a person back thousands.

Most of the more elaborate dresses are hand made so it is advised that it is ordered well in advance. Whether choosing a ballet, square, V, scoop or sweetheart neckline for those special medieval wedding gowns. The fact of the matter is every bride always looks beautiful on the big day.
