How To Choose Fantasy Landscape Photos

By Linda Cantrell

When people think of fantasy they tend to think of wizards, orcs, elves and so forth. It tends to be a genre that is associated with grand images. This is especially true with the backdrop of fantastical stories. This is probably why fantasy landscape photos are popular with a wide range of people.

The types of landscapes can vary wildly. They can include dark and frightening caverns. These often use frightening detail to capture the vastness and depth of the cavern, making it seem especially frightening. A talented artist can use software to take existing images and twist them into something truly scary that will stay with people long after they have seen the image.

However this does not necessarily have to be the case. People often forget that the original stories from writers such as the Grimm brothers or Hans Christian Anderson are often a lot darker than their subsequent adaptations. Therefore the imagery can often be quite dark and disturbing as well.

A photo does not necessarily have to come from a literary source. There are numerous official merchandise pictures that you can get that show off the landscapes based on the films, television series and books that they are featured in. For fans this is often something special in addition to the more usual forms of merchandise you can get.

However there are also a number of independent artists that create their own. These may be taken from real pictures and then adapted through photo editing software in order to make them more fantastical. Other artists may use this kind of software to create their own fictional pictures and create something that can be photo realistic without necessarily involving any real life references in order to make it.

A lot of these images come from books, television series and so forth. Some such as the locations used in the film adaptation of Lord of the Rings take real life landscapes and add extra computer effects in order to further cement a grand and epic backdrop. Indeed many places have had a boost in tourism based on these fantastical additions to the real world due to fans wanting to visit the locations in person.

In other cases it is more about looking online and checking the images. There are a wide array of places you could get them. They can be found in art stores, galleries and on websites. If you attend conventions the artists will often sell themselves and may even be willing to sign them for you!

You can find a number of artists and companies selling their photos online. It is worth using the image section of a search engine so you can look at the pictures that personally appeal to you. You can then find who made those pictures and find out how much they cost and where to get them from. It is also worth going online and talking to fellow fantasy enthusiasts to find out the artists that they personally like. You never know you may get introduced to a new favourite!
