On 4th November 2014, Illinois will have general elections. After the primary Illinois elections 2014 on 18th March, it is still quite early to know who will be the next leaders. There is great anticipation of who will win the race of being the executive officers of the state and also the township and district leaders.
It is one of the thirty four states that allow voters to vote early . Early voting begins fifteen days prior to the election date and ends three days before the date. Therefore, the actual date of early voting should be set twenty one days prior to the election date. The voters are required to have government issued photo identification. There are no specific requirements as to who should vote early.
The current governor Pat Quin will be running for reelection after winning the primary elections by garnering 40%of the total votes. He will be running with the previous Chicago public schools chief Paul Vallas to replace Sheila Simon as his running mate for lieutenant governor. They will be running against Bruce Rauner who won the primary elections. The republican candidate will be running alongside Evelyn Sanguinetti as his lieutenant governor. The 2014 election cycle marks the first time in Illinois history that candidates for the offices of governor and lieutenant governor ran on a single ticket in the primary election.
For the attorney generals office, in the democratic primary, Lisa Madigan will be running for reelection in November. Also, in the Republican primary, Paul Schimpf will be running. He was declared after the withdrawal of Mark Curran and Mike and the decline of Tom cross and Jim Durkin from the race.
Jesse White, the current Secretary of state will be running for re-election for a fifth term. He will be running against Mike Wester the republican candidate. The elected candidate will be the custodian of all official records and the state seal of Illinois. He will also be running against other third party candidates including Chris Michael and Sheldon Shaffer.
The comptroller office will be contested by Judy Baar who will be running for re-election and Shiela Simon, the current lieutenant governor. The treasurers office will be contested by Bob Grogan and Tom Cross. Other very popular third party candidates will be contesting for the two offices.
The incumbent lieutenant Governor, Sheila Simon will be running for office of the comptroller. She will be running against Judy Baar who will be vying for reelection for a second term. The third party candidates for the office include Julie Fox, Tim Curtin and Timothy Goodcase.
It is clear that the people of Illinois will take up their constitutional right to vote given the increased number of registered voters. There has also been increased change in the party affiliations that was seen during the primary elections. This is due to the fact that the state has a primary hybrid system. This system allows voters to declare their party affiliation at the polls as opposed to the common declaration during registration. Voters are therefor allowed to change affiliation as they wish but declare one during the polls.
