By Mary Wright

America is one country that contains people from various backgrounds. In fact, most of the cities and towns are mainly referred to as cosmopolitan. Travelling back in time, it was discovered that early settlers mainly came from Europe among many other nations. Slowly, they became accustomed to living with each other and that is quite evident in the present day. In this particular case, the main focus is on Arabs in the US.

The number of Arab Americans is on the increase as they continue to give birth and obtain US citizenship. The US census bureau conducted a population analysis and concluded that by the year 2000, 1.8 million of them were made up of Arab Americans. They have concluded that the number is set to increase with time. Nevertheless, this figure is not accurate enough and this continues to draw a lot of controversies. In fact, the Arab American Institute believes in multiplication of numbers in the next decade.

The Arab American population comprises of people who originate from 22 different countries. They are endowed with rich cultural practices, religious affiliations and unique political identities. In fact, they are widely distributed across major states within the country. It is not clear the exact size of the inhabitants that is believed to be diverse.

Just like other native people, Arabs are very flexible in the way they handle their affairs. Most of them have relatively high IQs and have landed lucrative jobs. There are many engineers, doctors, pilots among others who are mainly of Arab origin. People believe that they have greatly contributed to the well being of the country.

Not all Arab American were born in their countries of origin. In fact, 82% are born and have acquired citizenship by naturalization. They are mainly affiliated to well known Arabic countries such as Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt.

In line with education, most Arab American adults have attained at least high school diploma. This translates to an average of 89%. Approximately 45% of adults are holders of Bachelors or Post graduate degree. Only 12% of the population is made up of students found in the kindergartens.

65% of Arab Americans make up the total of people within the labor force. They are specialized in key areas such as managerial, administrative, sales and other professional fields. Of the total population, only 12% work for the government while 85% work in the private sector. In addition, median income for Arab American is at $56,331. When doing a comparison for other household within the US average income should be at $51,369. This indicates that many of them are living below their means.

It is quite evident that these people will continue to make headlines owing to their enormous contribution towards American development. Nevertheless, their countries of origin continue to face war atrocities. Even so, they should not be linked to various terrorist attacks just because they are linked to these countries. This provides people with insight as to what this community entails.
