Massachusetts Marital Record

By Kenneth Wright

The Freedom of Information Act has mandated the local government of each state to allow its residents to gain access to their personal files. One of the files that can be accessed in Massachusetts is the Massachusetts marriage records. This document is one of the highly accessed files of the state.

One of the references used when updating the family history is the marriage records of Massachusetts. It is also used by those who are researching about the family tree. One would have difficulties in government transactions without presenting one's certificate of marriage. This is especially true with insurance application and any other matters that concern the whole family.

Details about the union of two people bounded by love are the things that can be found on a marriage certificate. Information such as the date and place when the couple got married can be obtained from the document. It also has the names of important people who have been part of the ceremony much as the witnesses, sponsors, and the parents.

The marriage records in the state of Massachusetts are being managed by the office of the Vital Records Section. This is where one can obtain a copy of the marriage license. A written mail order addressed to the office can be done in order to obtain a copy of the needed document. With this, one should not expect to get immediate response to the request since it would take at least 2 weeks to get the requested document from the archive. A $28 processing fee is needed to have the request processed. It is also important to attach the requirements on the mail order to make the retrieval easier. A photocopy of a valid identification is needed to proceed with the request.

If waiting for days is not an option, it would be better to request for the document at the office itself. One simply has to fill out the application form and submit it to the office along with the $18 processing fee. This can save you time since the document can be released within the day it was requested if there were no problems encountered during the process. To help make the search easier it is advisable to provide the basic information of the document that is being requested such as the name, the date and the place when the marriage took place.

Online retrieval of a marriage record is also now available. This helps one to save a great amount of time since there is no need to go to any office to file the request. It can be done even at home and the results are displayed in just a few seconds, thus there is no need to go to any offices. This is the reason why more and more people of Massachusetts would prefer to conduct the search over the Internet.
