Rhinestone Tiaras Offer Affordable Option

By Rachael Gutierrez

When it comes to special occasions, every detail needs to be just so in order to make the whole thing truly perfect and memorable. From the food being served to the decorations and even the way one is dressed, each aspect contributes to the overall effect. One way to make one's outfit truly stand out is to accessorize with sparkling jewels such as beautiful rhinestone tiaras, bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings.

Purchasing real gemstones like rubies, sapphires, diamonds and emeralds to use as adornments in jewelery and accessories is not something the average person generally has the ability to do. However, rhinestones are an amazing and affordable alternative to use instead of the genuine articles. Some of these products are created with such incredible clarity and brilliance that it is no simple task to immediately discern them from the originals.

These items originally got their name because they were created from the sparkling rock crystals that were found along the length of the Rhine river. In modern times, however, they are derived from lead crystals, glass or acrylic. They can offer all of the glitz and flash of genuine gemstones but at a substantially lower cost.

The levels of quality, as well as the range of cost, will vary depending on the material from which the piece is made. The easiest to obtain and the most inexpensive option are those formed with molded plastics. Acrylic does not have any light refracting abilities so their sparkle is the lowest, though when used in general crafts and certain settings it still looks quite stunning.

Stones derived from glass have a more realistic appearance than their acrylic counterparts and are of mid quality in every way. These are the kind most often used in serious crafting and jewelry making because they have a shinier appearance than the plastics. They are cut with up to eight facets which help to reflect the light better when paired with a metallic backing such as foil or silver.

Swarovski, or Austrian crystals are the most coveted and have the best quality of all the various types of rhinestones. They are cut with no less than eight, and as many as fourteen facets each and have refractive properties that create a brilliance that mimics the genuine article almost perfectly. They do cost the most of all the options but their almost real appearance makes them the standard by which all others are measured.

Because genuine jewels are beyond the reach of most people for all but the most special of occasions, these replicas make for great substitutions in various accessories. They can deliver the sparkle and the shine of the real thing but can be more easily afforded. All of the brilliant colors available also provide the opportunity for incredible pieces to be made and specifically compliment a particular theme.

One way to avoid the high investment of buying real diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies and such for ones sparkle needs, is to try the alternative. Quality rhinestone tiaras, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and hair pieces can affordable deliver a brilliance that closely rivals the original. With materials ranging from low cost acrylics to mid-range glass and high quality lead crystal, these products can satisfy any glitz need.
