Why LCSW Ceus Matters To The Licensed Clinical Social Workers

In the modern world, it is a requirement that licensed clinical social workers (LCSW) engages in continuing education units (CEUs) that keep them abreast with the current issues facing the society. For this reason, state governments set up state boards that deal with the licensing of social workers. Such boards design specific courses that must be completed to qualify for renewal of the practicing licenses. With many LCSW CEUs certificates currently available, the social worker must balance the state board requirements and the work environment requirements before settling on particular CEUs to take.

A licensed clinical social worker is an area of profession requiring individuals to have at least Masters Degree qualification in a particular social health field. This degree should be backed up with thousands of hours in clinical training and numerous exams. They are supposed to help the society from all focal points be at individual basis, couples, family, the community and even organization to attain the general well being.

The primary role of these workers in the community is to develop all the welfare being of the individuals such as occupational, physical, psychosocial and even emotional skills which helps in mobilization of both the individuals and resources for community development in addition to addressing all other problems such employment, domestic violence, homelessness and substance abuse.

Their work take them to very diverse setting such as hospitals, schools, family services, churches, prisons and other correctional facilities, government departments and other corporations. The environment in which these social workers are working determines to a great extent the continuing course in which they should enroll.

It is always better to enroll for the units specified by the state board before going for those of interest. This will ensure that the worker takes the required courses first before including the additional ones that are oriented for professional development. Some of the courses that stand out among many states as the required ones include Spouse or Partner Abuse, Aging and Long Term Care, HIV/AIDS and Law and Ethics although they vary from state to state.

LCSW ceus in general hospitals and psychiatric centers for instance focus on such areas as aging, health resources, mental illness, long-term care system and bereavement among others. In correctional facilities, the continuing education units cover areas such as substance abuse, personality disorders, sexual offense, re-integration into society and general rehabilitation. The ones in child welfare agencies are child abuse, child neglect, domestic violence, juvenile delinquency and others that aim to help these social workers place children in good protective custody.

In schools, these social workers considers taking courses in areas such as adolescence, child abuse, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, withdrawal, sexuality, self harming, neglect and depression among many others. The story goes for those working as community counselors and all other areas of work where they are engaged.

There are various options in regards to LCSW ceus certificates with the majority being very affordable and courses can be completed online. Before embarking on what units to settle for, the state requirements must be considered in addition to the requirement of areas of specialization as both matters in license renewal.
