Must Read Before Buying Wholesale Costume Jewelry

By Jaclyn Hurley

People have been trying to buy reproduce jewelries molded from vintage items. The trend have been increasing due to mass production and massive sales contributed by different shops in the country. Often, these jewelries are copied from certain brands in different styles and designs.

You will know that a wholesale costume jewelry has been copied from the original by the size alone. Most of these are larger than the originals because they have bigger molders. One effective way of identifying these is by having an accurate reference guide. It could be a book or an expert opinion from a trusted friend.

Aside from the size, the thickness of the treatment can also be an identification for newer copies. Replicated models may have monotone qualities without any integration of softer shadings and could even look like low end according to some people. These may also be gilded with vermillion, bronze, and silver and could made of plastic as well.

Another accurate indicator if you are serious in this matter is the mark that is on the jewelry itself. You may need deeper and updated knowledge on company markings though because this could change from time to time. A company line might be different now compared to its previous years.

These differentiating characteristics are obvious because originals are handmade and reproduced copies are mass produced. In addition, the mountings can also be one thing that would separate an original from a copied version. The mounting on reproduced versions are usually casted while originals have mountings which are soldered altogether into one piece.

You will also observe that the former will have a tighter look compared to the latter which is has a lighter appearance. This is because there is little space between mountings with the replicated ones. If you happen to check the prong of your jewelry, you will observe either the prongs are thicker or these are thinly made.

For comparison, thin prongs would likely indicated that it is an original and it is created to let the stones be noticed. Thicker prongs on the other hand would mean it is reproduced and it is created such way to secure the stones in its mounting. This is quite illogical according to experts because the main purpose a jewelry is to show off its beauty not to hide it.

In addition, replicated prongs are mostly not bent because it will take time to produce it. It makes it easier to put them together by just gluing it rather than manually bending these like how the originals were done. If you check on a vintage jewelry you will find that the prongs have bent over intentionally to firmly hold the stones.

If you are planning to buy stuff on a jewelry store, decide whether you like to settle for an original or for a replicated. The thin line that separate both of these is the quality and price can quite be different. It is okay to buy any of these as long as you know you get the value for what you are paying. It would be disappointing to know that you tried to pay for an original price but you got a reproduced item.
