Will The Antichrist Be A Muslim Imam

By Eliza Mendoza

The debate about judgment day only leaves human kind with more questions than answers. A common dilemma for Christians is, will the antichrist be a Muslim. Christianity and Islam have scripture that give indication to a possible yet controversial answer. This is a puzzle whose answer can only be delivered by time. It is theological and only time is likely to provide an answer. However, there are writings that support the notion for and against the motion.

Islam has some scriptures that point at an imam who disappeared at a tender age. The belief is that there have been twelve imams since prophet Mohamed. The twelfth imam is said to have escaped persecution by going into a cave. According to Shiites, the imam is poised to return one day before the final judgment of this universe.

The bible carries writing about a ruler who is to return shortly before judgment falls on the world. The name used for this person is The Beast as illustrated in revelations chapter 13 and verse four. The ruler will be identified when he promises peace with the Israelites for a period of seven years. This treaty about peace shall then be broken before this period comes to an end.

The broken treaty shall signal to Christians that the beast is reigning. It is one of the signs given by early prophets. With the collapse of the peace deal, the king shall seize absolute power and dictate over nations. He will regard himself as God over nations. This tyrannical king before the second coming is said to coincide with the return of the twelfth imam as given in the Quran.

In the old testament, the narration by Daniel brings about confusion into the debate. He indicates that four kings shall rise before rapture occurs. The last of these four kings is to give clear indications that he is the prophesied beast. He will claim supernatural powers, rule by intrigues and be full of deceit. These are the traits to be used by Christians to know that the final days have arrived.

A few theories exonerate Muslims from being the sources of the beast. Islam is predominantly an Arab religion, yet the beast will have come from a revived Roman empire. The conflicts between Muslims and Israel make it unlikely for a truce to be signed between these two institutions. The seven year peace with Israel is therefore unlikely if the beast were to come from Islam.

The origin and nature of this antichrist remains speculative. The information also indicates that the king is to deliver peace to the Middle East region. The only possibility in this line would be a person of mixed decent. Muslims would accept him as their twelfth imam while Jews would see him as their king too.

Only time can provide an answer to the question, will the antichrist be a Muslim. Christians are urged to remain vigilante and evaluate anyone who claims to come from the Lord. It is not every spirit that claims to come from Christ is genuine. For anyone to be believed, such a person must show by actions and confess by word of mouth that Christ is the Lord and savior of mankind.
