By Tamika Powell

Once a person has discovered they are abusing alcohol and other drugs, it is important for them to enroll in a rehabilitation center where they will be able to recover from the addiction. After rehabilitation, one may think that they are cured and they will never yearn for the drugs that they were used to. However, this is false. This is because; the rehabilitation center offered a safe environment away from drugs. If someone goes home, and immediately they have access to the drugs, the chances of a relapse are very high. In order to avoid this, womens sober living homes were established so that ladies who are addicts can stay together after leaving rehabilitation centers. There are several advantages of these homes.

Adapting to the new environment once a person leaves the rehabilitation center, is usually very hard. Sometimes people can easily go back to using drugs without the proper guidance. To avoid an individual from relapsing and going back to drug abuse, these homes are very important. They offer more freedom than the center but there are restrictions that enable people to establish boundaries.

The womens sober living homes provide a safe environment where women can share their frustrations without being afraid. This is because every person at the homes is going through similar issues that they may be facing. This provides a forum to ensure that the healing process continues even after leaving the home.

A set structure is of great essence in making sure that the addicts adopt a specific daily routine. The routine that the addicts may have been used to at the rehabilitation center may not be suitable in the outside world. The homes are freer as compared to the centers and they offer structures that people can adhere to even after they leave the home.

In these homes, drugs and alcohol are not allowed. Additionally, drug tests are carried out randomly to ensure that each person is clean. This builds an atmosphere of accountability between the housemates. There is also an expert who offers counseling programs to ensure the addicts are on the right track to recovery.

Sometimes a rehabilitation center may require a patient to undergo an outpatient drug and alcohol program. This is important in ensuring that a person completely recovers. These homes offer the perfect environment for people still undergoing an outpatient drug and alcohol program.

All the people staying in sober living homes are usually addicts hence they encourage each other and offer support. When this support is provided, a relapse is highly unlikely. Additionally it gives the person the opportunity to build a social network since most of their friends may be still using drugs and they would want to avoid this bad company since it can make them go back to using drugs.

The advantages of womens sober living homes are very many. People can now go and stay at one of such homes once they leave rehabilitation. It is very important since it prevents certain situations like a relapse.
