Apps to Assist the Don't Text and Drive Campaign

By Rob Sutter

At this point, I think just about everyone knows that you don't text and drive at the same time. The dangers of it have been explained well, I believe, and it should come as no surprise that this combination can be potentially deadly. In order to help on this matter, though, there seems to be a couple of mobile apps that can assist in this cause. I recommend that you download a couple of them and see which ones work best; just make sure you're away from the driver's seat before you do so.

When it comes to apps meant for text messaging and driving, TeenSafer seems to be one of the more recognizable ones. This allows parents to form their own accounts and that's when they can monitor the driving of their children. In addition, it allows the phones that children have to remain all but useless during the car's running, ranging from silencing email alerts to outright locking the keypad until the vehicle is shut off. TeenSafer has definitely proven itself to be a useful program.

PhoneGuard is another app which stands to be looked at by authorities on this cause such as Texting Awarness. This app may not be as intricate when placed beside TeenSafer, for instance, but I think it's ability to present a message should not go without mentioning. It tell you "don't text and drive" once your vehicle reaches a speed of ten miles per hour, which definitely works well as an alert. It can also block text messaging, so it's an app that deserves to have attention placed on it.

No matter how much the point is drilled into people's minds, there is still that urge to look down at one's smartphone or touch device. When this occurs, the level of danger seems to incur an upward spike and the risk seems to increase for just a moment in time. You do not want to take your eyes off of the road, no matter what. When you consider that these apps are designed to lock phones and close out all features temporarily, I think that more people should be made aware of these.

Don't text and drive is one of those lessons that deserves to be repeated and I think that these apps can only serve to exemplify that point. So many people may not be aware of these programs, which is inexcusable. I believe that if more people understand how these apps work through advertising, I believe that there would be a greater instance of downloads. It would also do nothing but good in order to bring this cause to a much higher extent than before.
