The state of Texas has a projected population in 2012 shows a total 26,403,743 inhabitants base from the Vital Statistics Unit of the Lone Star State. The processing time for the requested birth documents will take 30 minutes until two hours for walk-in applicants. The officer will notify the applicant to return to the office whenever the process will take longer than the expected time. Mail requests will need to wait for 24 to 32 weeks to receive their copy of birth file or verification letter. The office will collect an amount of $22 for each copy of the requested birth records. Walk-in applications can be sent through cash, checks or money orders payable to the Department of State Health and Services. Payments of mailed request must be in check or money order.
