Driving down a dusty road in the Midwest, on either side, stretching for miles, are cornfields. The landscape is dotted by various farms here and there. On the right side, you might come across a farmhouse. As you approach it, you see children riding bikes up and down the road. The farm features a perimeter fence and the front gate might be open. The area including the farm features several large trees. The front of the house might be having a particularly large tree. Hanging from the tree is a large sized rope. A tire is hooked onto the rope's end. The end of the rope feature's a tire. You are actually looking at a tire swing.
Swings made from tires represent the unique western form of ruggedness. The farm stands alone, surrounded by fields. The farmer works hard together with his family to get things done. They need little help from anyone else.Their farm has been handed down from generation to generation, so they grew up knowing exactly what to do to keep things going.
Tire swings have been symbols of many things throughout the years. You've probably seen movies or pictures of fair-haired young lady with a polka dotted dress swinging freely, the wind blowing her hair, her head tilted back to smile or laugh. It might be that there was a young gentleman behind her giving her a push. Otherwise, it might have been some child having fun swinging with legs outstretched so as not to drag the ground.
Word on the street is that Harvard has a tire swing.Apparently, as part of an old tradition of the gathering of students, involving hotdogs and background music, students line up to get a minute or so ride on this old tire swing. If you are not in the know that Harvard students might be capable of these things, then you might have to duck as the students have fun.
The students take this tradition of swinging on a tire swing as they break away from books and classes in a good way as they break from the monotony of education. People might not take the existence of a tire swing in Harvard seriously but Harvard does.
The tire swing theme is quickly forgotten after childhood. Remembering the times spent on a tire swing obviously helps us forget the turmoil that today's world is composed of. The tire swing is a vision anyone can embrace but for most of us, few keep it in mind
