Understanding the Importance of Personal Spiritual Growth

By Zoe Smith

How are you today? Is your life full of ecstasy and fun? Or is it depressing and tragic? If you are like most people, you are probably in the middle. You have a normal life and compared to many people in the rest of the world-you've got it pretty good. Now, is it a bad thing to want more? Of course not! Wanting more is not ingratitude- it is simply how we were created to be. So how do we attain more? The answer is by attending to our personal spiritual growth.

You may be asking, what has my spiritual condition got to do with my personal development? Friend, it has everything to do with your best life. Did you know that even people from ancient worlds understand the importance of personal development and indeed, have turned their dreams into reality by tapping into their deepest spiritual self? Think about it, before the era of self-help what did people use to inspire and empower them to accomplish great things- a highly evolved spiritual state.

So what do we do to establish a good spiritual personal development plan? Before anything else, you must realize that you are created for a purpose. There is a reason why you are alive on earth at this time. What is it? Your specific talents and characteristics is a good indication of what it is. What are you passionate about? What do you do that gives you joy? Find out your strengths, weaknesses, passion and beliefs to point you to what God wants to make of your life.

It is critical that you know your purpose in life. When you do, you can prune away things, people and situations that do not help you reach your goals. As you continue to make your way towards your purpose (which is usually revealed a little at a time), always keep a good attitude in life. You will encounter mistakes-made by you and other people. Do what you can about them and move on. Use these experiences as a learning tool and let it go.

Also, a positive attitude is a powerful tool in attracting the good you desire. Any practitioner of an excellent personal development plan can attest to this. The thoughts you dwell on and the emotions you choose to feel are vibrations. These vibrations attach themselves to things that they are in harmony with. Think wealth and opportunities for wealth will come.

A great spiritual teacher once said, "It is better to give than to receive"-it is a truth not often practiced. Make a conscious effort to be generous with whatever is given to you-time, treasure or talent. You will find that not only will it be given back to you "pressed down, shaken together and running over", it will also give you deepest joy.

Gratitude connects you to the Source of all supply so endeavor to find things to be grateful for everyday. It is one of the most important things you can do for your personal spiritual growth. When you see life as a gift, it will be and you will begin to expect more blessings to come your way. Now you know the secret for an amazing life-it's time you live it out for yourself.
