Deciphering The Relevance Of The Old Covenant Vs. The New Covenant

By Lucille Combs

For a long time, people have been quite abashed by the magnitude of the unfathomable truths declared by the bible. As holy as it is, individuals from different walks of life go head to head against each other while trying to decipher such mentally poignant arguments for which no such scientific experiment can prove their existence. Yes, mind-bending indeed. But as much as life at present is entwined with the past, it is truly spiteful to ridicule those who have spent time debating the essence of the old covenant vs new covenant.

From the beginning, God has already made not just promises to the humankind, but certain rules that should never be catechized. In different religious talks, many of such arguments are discussed and reflected. While it is a definite mistake to dig out relevance and meaning of the mystifying issues, many are simply obliged to do so. Why? Because there is a huge world out there that needs vivid explanations.

As for the new and old covenants, nobody can simply interpret the parables and allegories in the layman's term easily. With a million ministries that try to set forth transcendental denotations just to facilitate individual understanding about the biblical texts, varied interpretations have only made people more confused.

Prophets and apostles spoke almost the same biblical realities. The odd is, only a selected few are able to disentangle the confusing threads of their stories. Hearing their explanations may seem far from being enough, at least you are able to penetrate the consequential conditions of your human actions.

A covenant is a collective agreement between different parties. In religious context, it is a pact between man and God. Sealed in an unseen envelop with which the soul and the heart are the only ones that have the hint where it is at. And as much as God is a merciful and loving God, His anger depletes seeing His creations gradually going sideways. He is capable forgiving and forgetting in a snap. That is how incredibly awesome He is.

The old testament does speak about a pact made with Moses as mediator. This mutual agreement was to be followed strictly but was then broken simply before it was even made known to others. The ten commandments, carved into the tables stones, were eventually violated then on.

In the Book of Jeremiah, the new agreement was established. God promises to put His laws not on a solid tablet but into His flocks' minds and write them in their heads. The new laws, however, are stated in full in Hebrews 8:10-11.

Sticking to such covenants, old and new, is believed as an ultimate sacrifice of man to be perfectly fit to the Lord's kingdom. Whether there is truth in this conjecture or not, submitting yourself to the Lord's order is not a laughable matter way out of a question. As Christians, it is important to be carefully in sync with the divine words.

Arguments concerning old covenant vs new covenant may continue to be dead mind-boggling. What actually matters here is for you to have your faith kept intact and stay as close as you can be to Him. You are after all part of His creations. Stop complaining and do what He intends you to do.
