In six months time, my parents will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. They don't want to renew their wedding vows anymore since they already renewed their vows on their 25th wedding anniversary. A big party is also not on the list. With their children and grandchildren is how they want to celebrate it. They also plan to invite close relatives to celebrate with us in a restaurant with a good reputation.
As the oldest child, I took the initiative of contacting my siblings on what we will do on the wedding anniversary of our parents. All of us are working far from our hometown and it is so difficult for us to have a meeting physically. Plus our busy schedules don't permit us to do meet-ups on weekends. Utilizing Skype and using emails helped us to get in contact with each other and disseminate our ideas. During our discussions, we agreed that all our children will present a song number or a dance show for a short program. We know that our parents would be very glad to see their grandchildren's presentations since they doted on them.
Then one sister suggested that we should give our parents a special gift. However, what to give them is the challenge that we were faced with. An "aha!" moment struck a sister and suggested we give them something befitting for a golden wedding anniversary. How about giving them palladium wedding rings, one brother said. We asked him to explain that. He said that palladium is a rare metal just like platinum. A relative of platinum, palladium is more cost effective and has a silvery-white hue. If we can decide to choose that as our anniversary present, we can avail of special offers.|One of my sisters proposed that we will present our parents with a beautiful gift. Finding an appropriate gift is one big hurdle that we needed to get over. Another sister opined that our gift should be related to the 50th wedding anniversary of our parents.
We concurred with our brother's suggestion. Since he was the one who brought up the idea, he will be given the task of canvassing for a proper design at the right price. From among the choices my brother gave us, we picked the set of palladium wedding rings with a 0.25 carat diamond at the center of the diamond eternity rings. There are two smaller diamonds each on the shoulder totaling five diamonds in each ring. The five diamonds stand for the 50 years our parents have been together as husband and wife through thick and thin, for richer or poorer, and in sickness and in health. These gifts are our way of thanking them for adoring us. They have courageously brought us up to be great people.
They were very surprised by the presentations of their grandchildren. But they were very glad to see the grandchildren and happier to observe their song numbers and dance presentations. We saw that our parents were very happy with everything. They were clapping their hands all the time and the smile on their lips reached their eyes. Then came out the surprise gifts. Everybody was silent as we told our parents how much we love them. Because of their hardships, we have made better lives for our own families. And we presented them with the gifts. Our parents were speechless. They did not expect anything such as these. They were fortunate to have good and loving children.
