North Carolina Marriage Records Available Online

By Kenneth Wright

North Carolina marriage records are just one of the many public documents that the residents of the state can access. This was possible because North Carolina has been an open state since the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act.

The marriage certificate in North Carolina is one of the references used for genealogy research. It is also one of the sources for updating the family records. Background check is also one of the uses of a marriage certificate. This is usually done by those who want to make sure that the person they are going to marry later is really single as they claim they were. Government transactions would also require the need for a marriage certificate especially if the process involves the couple.

A marriage certificate would contain information about the union of two people bounded by love. Details such as the date and place where the marriage took place are indicated on the file. It would not be a complete document without the names of the bride and groom. Other important names include the name of the parents of the couple, as well as the wi9tnesses and the sponsors are indicated on the document.

The office of the Vital Records section of North Carolina is where all public documents of the state are being kept. This includes the marriage documents of the state. The state has kept marriage records that have been registered since January 1962. Records prior to that year can only be requested and obtained at the county where the couple got married. A $24 fee is needed in order to have the request processed. Only the relatives of the people whose name is on the file can request for the document. One has to provide the basic details of the marriage in order to have the request processed. A minimum of 10 working days is needed in order to get the requested file from the archive.

Now the retrieval has been made a breeze, thanks to the use of the Internet. With this new technology, there is no need to go to any office to file the request since it can be done anywhere that has Internet connection. This method has also made the retrieval of the document faster since there is no need to wait for days; the results are obtained in just second. One can even choose from a paid search or a free search offered by some websites.

Many would like to try the marriage records free from any charge. Some websites allow their users to have a feel of their system before letting them go for their paid search. This allows the users to have a wise decision.
