Grief Support Online Advantages And Disadvantages

By Elisabeth Burt

One of the greatest trial that a person would face in his life is the death of a person he loves. Perhaps, this is one of the greatest pain that an individual could ever experience. Different individuals have different means of coping. Empathy is very helpful during these situations. This lessens the time that a person has to spend with the grieving process. This can be done with grief support online.

The dawn of the Internet have made it possible. Communication of different people from whatever side of the globe they are is made possible. This is a great way of gathering people with similar interests. Specific sites and social media are just some of the ways that communication can be done and so far, they have been proven beneficial.

Through them, one is always assured to meet someone who is facing a similar situation. Death is normal and lots of people are looking for someone whom they can mourn with. Someone who is sharing the same distress would be the best. There are many of them everywhere and going online is the best way of meeting with them.

There are also those who have personal meetings with a support group. However, it has the disadvantage of having time limits. During those sessions many participants will seem to seek more attention causing others to have not enough time for themselves. Also, schedules are set. Internet sites offering this do not have any schedules or time limits. One will be able to visit them any time he wants and as long as he wants to.

One can meet many individuals there who are at different grieving levels. This way, one can be sure that he can get lots of advices and learn from people from different stages. If one just needs someone to hear them, that too would be okay as they understand what new members have gone through. There is no way that forcing someone on something he does not understand will help with the process.

The community has a collective experience that they learn from different members. That would be comforting since no one will judge the way you approach things no matter what stages you are in. People here learn from many that different people react and adapt in different ways.

In joining them, some things have to be watched out for. Getting stuck to a certain stage could happen specially when one meets often with people who reminds them of what they had experienced before. However, this is only subjective. To prevent that, one has to keep communication open not just to those who are new, but also with those who have made progresses.

The problem with staying online is that there is a possibility for one to be isolated from the outside world. This could possibly happen specially in situations where one is looking for many people to support him during stressful situations. To remedy this, a balance have to be made between both worlds.

Grief support online is a best way of coping. One has to make a balance of the outside and online community. This is the best way that a person could get the most out of it.
